Question: No Stains? This is obviously ideal! But how do you make sure no one spills anything when you're not around, maybe surfing the web or watching TV? Is it possible to photograph the incident?

Answer No Stains. Yes, it's possible to capture or photo the making of a stain in the act simply by installing a security camera! No more guessing or wondering, "How'd this happen!" No, instead you'll rest comfortably knowing your home or business is on guard, ready and watching for the next spill all via CCTV cameras & security camera equipment.

Question: Yellow Discoloration. Question: Blood. How do you remove old bloodstains from denim that has already been washed and dried repeatedly? -- "Eagle" eagle@shopstop.net (Ref:0002)

Answer: ref:0002 Blood Stains.  For fresh dried blood stains; pour hydrogen peroxide on the stain, this will fizz up, then rinse with Cold water. For an older dried blood stain, wet with cold water first, then apply the hydrogen peroxide to the stain. It will fizz then rinse with cold water. --  "vivken" vivken@ipa.net  20 Jan 2003

Answer: ref:0002 Fresh Blood stain. Put article of clothing into bathroom sink and pour some peroxide on it and let it set a couple minutes. work it in a little, rinse and repeat. -- John D, Banacek@coslinknospam.net

Answer: For blood stains-fresh ones or already set in stains-I swear by a product called "Clear Choice". It is truly amazing and works on almost any spot or stain in fabrics and also carpets(you can even mix with water and run through a carpet machine for awesome results!). This product is non-toxic, non-flammable, non-magnetic, odor free, and biodegradable. The label on the bottle says so! It even has a 100% money-back guarantee! I happened upon it by chance, looking for a spot remover for a pet stain in my carpet, but that would also remove the odor. It did both, and the best part is you don't need to scrub the stain. You just rub your finger over the applied area to activate, blot with an absorbent cloth and Presto! It can even be used as a laundry pre-treat, and it is fantastic. I have come across many stains, old and new, my sons always get in their cloths, and it does the trick every time-even ball point pen, fresh or old! I could go on and on about it, but you need to try for yourself to believe. If it isn't sold in your local supermarket on the cleaning supply aisle, here is the company info.

Answer: Fresh Blood Stains: To remove or reduce fresh blood stains, soak the item in a bowl of milk overnight then wash in the normal way -- jane rea mnspail@chapel1111.fsnspet.co.uk   8 Dec 2003

Answer: Cleaning Blood Stains.  Peroxide removes blood. Just pour the peroxide straight onto the stain and the blood will disappear. You may have to rub a little on tougher stains, but it works. --  MMARNSPCIAG@anspol.com  18/12/2005

Question: Grass Stain. I need help on grass stain. My son slid in the grass with his Kaki pants. I've washed 3 times in cold water, each time applying "Spray N Wash" before laundering. The green is almost gone, but seems to be replaced by a brownish color. What can I do? Sue Hoskin -- "Jay/Sue"  jshoskin@inlandnet.com (Ref:0008)

Answer: Grass Stain: Try Cascade or similar dry dishwasher soap. When my sons played sports I learned this and it worked every time. I even use it on my bathtub. It seems to have lost is sparkle or that clear coating that makes it easy to clean. When I use Cascade it gets cleaner and in 1/2 the time. Also Lave hand soap work well too. On grout in the tub and clothing stains but rinse it out so it doesn't lighten clothing. Good luck!  Chris -- 25 Mar 2004

Answer: Try "A Clear Choice". I bet you'll never buy spray and wash again. used as a laundry pre-treat, you spray it on, rub with fingertips, repeat if necessary, toss in wash and dance with joy when it's done. it even takes marker spots off of clothes. this will work with fresh stains or 'set in' ones and that's just one of it's many uses. if you can't find it in the supermarket on the cleaning supply aisle, you can look them up at www.aclearchoice.com .  It is non-toxic, non-flammable, non-magnetic, odor free, and biodegradable. it is recommended for carpets, upholstery, auto carpeting, auto upholstery, pet stains, laundry pre-spotter and woodwork. with a 100% money back guarantee, what have you got to lose?   Silly putty Stains

Question: Silly putty  We have silly putty on light color berber carpet, it is right in a door way, so I hate to experiment & maybe leave a bigger stain. It had been there quite some time before we discovered it--that may make it harder to come up??  Thanks. Please don't use my e-address on the web. Thanks again. J Hammond -- jjhammo@nospam.com (Ref:0452)

Answer: We are not absolutely sure what will work but you could try applying ice or dry ice and breaking (tapping it sharply) up the material ( the common solution for chewing gum) You would probably have to do it PDQ or the bits will soften and fall back in to the carpet. You could also experiment with cooking oil, white spirit or WD40 -- Fiona McIlroy  Please let us know if it works

Response: In regard to removing the silly putty from my carpet - I tried the ice cube - nothing happened. I have some GOO GONE , it says not to apply directly to carpet, so I placed some on a cloth & blotted the silly putty -- I worked! Took a little effort but can't tell where it was! Thanks for your help anyway -- J. Hammond JJHAMMO@nospam.com

Question: Silly putty removal Good morning! There is Silly Putty on the bed sheets and pillow cases! It seems like I have removed the silly putty itself but it was the "orange" type and the orange stain is still there. Any ideas as to how to remove the stain? Thanks, D -- Denise Caiafa  kidcaiafa@earthlink.net  - (Ref:0648)

Response: Silly Putty  Put wd 40 on it let it sit for 10 minutes then using rubbing alcohol blot it until it is gone Jensuenspmay@aol.com   21 Dec 2003

Question: Never Seize Stain My husband recently got a product called "Never Seize" on one of his shirts whilst changing the tires over... Is there any way to get the stain out? Thanks in advance for any help! -- Anna, CA USA Anna Guazzelli dace101@yahoo.com   (Ref:0647)

Question: "Stwizler" My child vomited on our light blue carpet after eating a "Stwizler" that was all red. Please help with any suggestions. I tried "Resolve" carpet cleaner immediately but there is still a large stain. Thank you! -- The Benenati Household -- sben@clarityconnect.com  (Ref:0710)

Answer: We did a search for that odd word Stwizler on the internet but no success. The food dye must be a common one so it should be relatively easy to find a stain remover that does the trick. We are still asking around for you. If you can find out the name of the product a search on the web might get a response from the manufacturer of the candy -- www.qznaz.com

Answer: Red Candy Stain. I think your problem is that the candy is spelled: TWIZZLER—no S. Good luck -- 'gurowitz' . Dec 15 2006

Answer Stwizler. I have had considerable success with Borax to take stains out of carpet. First dampen the area with warm vinegar in water (just a dash in a icecream dish half full of water). Then sprinkle the powdered borax over the area quite liberally. (I make a point of bying Borax that looks like talc in texture as there is also one which looks like dry fibeglass type slivers and I don't like that one). Leave the mix to dry and the stain just comes to the surface of the borax powder. Quite magic. Vacuum when dry. JM

Answer: Red Carpet Stain. Buy Spot Shot carpet stain removal, usually available at Walmart stores. This has removed red Kool-aid stains from our carpet. Test on another area of carpet that may not be as noticeable to test for any color change to carpet before using on the stain. Good luck. -- Michelle DiCarlo' Apr 28 2006

Question: Small burn in carpet!: An ember from our fireplace burned a small hole in our new carpet, about the size of a cigarette burn. We have extra pieces of the carpet leftover, and I think there is a way to cut fibers to fill the burn hole but I am not sure exactly how to do this, or what kind of glue to use so it won't get vacuumed up. The carpet is a plush pile, 65oz weight, and since the hole is so small I wondered if anyone had a TIP or HINT that would help us be able to fix it ourselves without calling carpet repair. Can you help? Respond to NormalSue@aol.com . Thank you!  (Ref:0179)

Answer: Carpet Repair.  Here's what I did: Trim all the cigarette burn part away with fingernail (cuticle) scissors. Go to several other places in your carpet and snip pieces of it. Superglue these little snippits into the burn place. Check the repaired place again in a day and add more snipped pieces if you think you need to. --  BillyEltonnospamAlanMe@wmconnectnsp.com 10/05/2005

There is an adhesive available here in the UK called Copydex and it can be used to stick down small pieces of carpet such as would be used in a small patching exercise. Be sure to smear the sides of the patch as well as the underside. My books on stain removal all suggest snipping away the burned fibers and spot-bleaching the remaining scorch marks. -- Davina www.qznaz.com

Answer: Carpet Burn. I saw a technique on tv and here it is as best as I recall: Purchase carpet tape (at a carpeting store?) which is very strongly adhesive. Cut a circle (somewhat larger than the burn) out of your undamaged carpet. Lay that piece over the burn and, using it as your pattern, very carefully cut around it and through the damaged carpet. Lift up the burned circle. Cut a piece of the tape larger than the hole and carefully tuck the tape down on the floor so that the edges extend under the edges of the hole. Then press the patch down tight. Oh- if there is any direction to the nap, be sure the patch is cut to match it. It looked easier than it sounds and was invisible once done. The tape is very strong according to the tv host. Good luck. Gurowitz -- Dec 15 2006

Question: Chain Saw Oil on carpet  We have indoor-outdoor carpet on our patio. Our son-in-law laid down his chain saw and oil leaked out. Any ideas how to get that oil out? Please answer to: robandbev@airmail.net   (Ref:0711)

Question: Rust stains in white cotton: What will remove rust from white cotton material? -- Lorrie Nold -- loirv@ccp.com  (Ref:0712)

Answer: Rust stains in white cotton: To remove the stain, rub with lemon juice and salt. Leave it several hours. It's even more effective when placed in the sun. Wash as normal. - - Patti kpmnospam@wtnsp.net  Seizetheday

In Australia we have a product called Rustiban available at pharmacies only. It's a tiny plastic bottle with liquid in it of which one only needs a drop or two onto the cloth which has been moistened with water. Rust spots disappear while you watch. I t works wonderfully. Only on white cotton as far as I know. Don't get it on your fingers or skin as it is corrosive --maroofnsp@globalnsp.net.au

I believe that there is also a stain Devil available for rust on fabric.  Oxalic acid is sometimes suggested in old books on stain removal, however it is poisonous and should only be used with caution. -- www.qznaz.com Answer: Stain Devils  Hi, I notice in the how to remove stains section, someone recommended "Stain Devil" and implied that it was not readily available, except in the UK. If you ask your search engine to find "Westons", they are a pharmaceutical supply company that advertise on the web, and have "Stain Devils" for all manner of stains. P.J.Morant. -- P.Morant@btinternet.com 17 Jan 2003

Question: Rust Stains: Off -White Berber Carpet  I have recently noticed that quite a few rust stains have appeared on my  Berber carpet from the legs of furniture. The metal nail under the leg must  have been in contact with water or dampness ... Question: Pen ink stain How do you get pen ink stain? -- LisaRaeBkn@aol.com  (Ref:0714)

Question: Jacket Stains I have a favorite jacket which I like to wear quite regularly. The other day when I was painting my sons bird cage with an aerosol can I carelessly got drips of paint on my sleeves and the front. It is a cream nylon jacket with polyester inside. I would like to restore the jacket. Please help -- “Scott Beattie" scottbeattie@hotmail.com   (Ref:0715)

Question: Scorch marks on fabrics My iron has residue on it (dark matter) and when I went to iron a shirt it got on the shirt. I have tried several things to get it off the fabric. Do you know what could get it off the shirt? Something good for scorch marks on fabrics would be good. Thank you. nthomas@mail4ez.com NANCYTHOMAS nthomas@box.okeechobee.com  (Ref:0716)

I don't know about the shirt but in Australia we have a product called Hi speed, Hot Iron Clean. It's a small tube with a light brown "toothpaste" consistency brown stuff. Put some on a clean cloth a run the hot iron over it. You may have to repeat it. Works well. JM

Sorry, no perfect answer to this one, but someone out there has a good idea. Please help! Regarding your iron, a contributor (Simon Thorne) suggested cleaning toasters (which had burned on bread wrappers adhering to them) with acetone or nail varnish remover, perhaps it would work on the residue on your iron (when it has cooled down). Acetone can be used on almost all fabrics except acetates. -- www.qznaz.com.

Question: Age stains I have a cross-stitched quilt, almost 31 years old, and a Baptismal gown, same age. Both have yellow stains. I have tried Wisk and dishwasher detergent (Cascade) to no avail. I am pretty sure both items are cotton or cotton blends as I have washed them repeatedly with no ill effects. Any help greatly appreciated...for my first grandchild. Thank you. -- Jo Freer freer@northnet.org   (Ref:0716)

Answer: I have heard a mixture of fresh lemon juice and salt rubbed on spots and placed in sun will bleach out yellow in old stains. This information from my wise Aunt Sue. I would try it first on just one small area and see how it does. -- Good Luck, Patti Seizetheday Email: kpmnospam@wtnsp.net

Answer: Age stains. Hi Jo. Has anyone suggested yet for yellowing cotton/cotton blends, to use any type of powder bleach, especially one for nappies is great! I have 100% cotton sheets & they tend to yellow over the winter sitting in the cupboard & this is what I soak them in (nothing else) in hot water, then rinse, to whiten them again for summer use. Ball Pen Stains

Question: Ball point pen marks A few asked how to remove ball point pen from wood. WD-40, hair spray or if all else fails try nail polish remover. I had to resort to the nail polish remover to clean up a chair my daughter marked up with a pen. I removed most, but not all of the marks. Areas where the pen gouged deeply it lightened up, but some marks remained. Looks a lot better though!! Test in an area that isn't too visible first to be sure it will not harm the finish and clean it off with a damp sponge once done.  Hope this helps someone. Answer#1: Ball Point Pen Removal
Try using aerosol hair spray applied directly to the stain. ( I usually isolate the stain with an old cloth) spray it, leave it overnite and launder as normal. Good Luck! The cheaper the hairspray the better. jlangelaan1@cogeco.ca 21/07/2005

Answer#2: Ink Removal. Hi, Try spraying him (the action figure) with hairspray, then scrubbing him with an old toothbrush. rinse under water, and repeat if necessary. -- tracynospam.shaw@calgarynsphealthregion.ca 06/09/2005 (Ref:1182)

Answer#3: Removing Ball Point Pen from Plastic Toys. Dear John, My daughter had a very expensive baby doll once that she scribbled all over in ball point pen. Nothing worked but after many phone calls to the manufacturer, one very kind employee rang me back with this tip. I didn’t actually believe that it would work, but it did in fact completely remove the ball point pen from the doll. What you need is “Oxy 10” pimple cream (I live in Australia so I don’t know what the equivalent outside Australia would be – some kind of 10 X strength pimple cream from the pharmacy I guess). You then rub this cream all over the toy/doll and let it dry. Then coat it again in the cream and put it out in the sun. The pen should just vanish. As I said, it worked for me but you might want to try a small area first.  I also used it when my daughter scribbled all over the plastic cover of a school book and it worked as well. Best of luck. -- Karen  knospamb@rtmnsp.com.au  01/11/2 005

14 Oct 2003  (Ref:0944)

Answer: Walnut Stain  I saw your posting on walnut stain. Well, I have a beautiful set of colored fingers after cleaning up my bumper crop of nuts this weekend. I work for a hand cleaner company (GOJO) and I tried about a dozen different products over the last couple days. Nothing worked, including specialty ink & stain removers, bleaches, and some stuff the lab cooked up special. We figured out that the stain actually penetrated several layers of skin and is basically a temporary tattoo. I think the only option is to wear it off. I tried the Cornell advice for taking the stain out of clothing, but it didn't do anything for me. It's detergent/vinegar, then alcohol, then bleach, then vinegar again. I'm hoping you found something that works. Please let me know if you did. I have a trip abroad this weekend and they already think we're strrange! Thanks. Mike Dolan  gjrnd1@aol.com  dolanm@adelphia.net  14 Oct 2003

Question: Tomato based stain I am looking for a way to remove tomato-based stains - i.e. spaghetti sauce from my plastic containers -- Katharine Butler" kathyb@mts.net (Ref:0692)

Subject: Tomato based stain - How do you remove stains from plastic containers used to reheat foods (like tomato sauce) in the microwave? These stains are permanent. Nothing will remove them, as they are now part of the plastic, which has been modified on a molecular level. This change is caused by the high temperatures experienced in isolated areas on the perimeters of containers used to heat or re-heat food in a microwave oven. The worst part is not the tomato sauce becoming part of the container, but the plastic container becoming part of the food! There are ongoing studies on the effects of chemicals that mimic oestrogen, which are found in most plastic packaging and plastic containers. Researchers are currently trying to draw the link between this, increased in infertility in men, and increased breast cancer in women, caused by these xenoestrogens. Yikes! Not to fear monger, but it might be best to err on the side of caution by toss! ing those plastic containers and only use glass or ceramic dishes in the microwave. -- James Sayer
